Q&A: Horse racing?

Question by barrel racer: Horse racing?
ok in the section “horse racing” on here…..the only thing people are asking is why people kill horses when they break their legs because of the breeders cup accident. theres like 20 questions that are asking that……are they just too stupid to scroll down and look at the other answers instead of asking it again, because their asking the same question their just going to get the same answers.

Yeah they are just dumb to the ways of the world on some aspects and this is definately one of them. They don’t realize how much weight a horse actually puts on it’s feet and how they absolute;y have to have them to get around. The dislocation in George Washington’s ankle was pretty severe and they felt that the best option for him was to put him down. I would have done the same because it would have been in the best interest in the horse. A break would have possibly been attempted to fix but having had experience in dislocations myself (dislocate dknee due to being thrown) they never do heal quite right. Imagine 1100 lbs of horse being walked and taking just one step and that ankle dislocating or subdislocating again. I imagine all the questions also have to do with “when are they going to put an end to the sport” my response to that would be the same time they put an end to football , aiin’t gonna happen. Freak accidents abound in ANY sport it’s just the well know and highly publicized games, races, events that get talked about. Heck here in TN just a few weeks ago a high school kid died on the football field…. did it make national news? Nope but when a high ranking high school basketball player dies of a heart condition on the court during a championship game… you hear about it. I wish people would open their eyes to the fact like I said the world is full of freak accidents and stopping a certain sport or race or what ever will not stop it from happening elsewhere.. ok sorry got on a lil rant there, been debating this same topic ALL day with the hubby who is not an avid racing fan. Anyway the folks you mentioned above , their just ignorant!

Note!!! I just checked bloodhorse.com and read the articles on what happened to george washington in the classic. I did not know that it was an open fracture wound and how serious it was, not only did he dislocate the joint he shattered his sesamoids and broke the cannon to where it nbroke skin! This type of open injury allows bacteria and injury to set up very quickyl from wehich it would be extremely difficult to recover. So yeah they definately did the right thing by george (and I mean tby the horse , not the saying. woops:) didn’t emnt to make it sound liek that! )

It seems that people ask questions without looking to see if others have already asked the same or a similar question. Everyone has an opinion to post anyway.

Horse racing has been an established sport for centuries, after all, it is called “the sport of kings” so wishing it’s going to end soon is a wasted wish as even the great depression didn’t even slow it down a little bit.

There are 10 to 15 races run at every single track across the country on just about every day of the week. In which, at least 6 horses run. Take that number of animals running every day and subtract the horses that get injured and or destroyed and you’ll have the answer to the question of “why do people continue to race horses when they could be injured”

As I always say, there’s a village missing it’s idiot somewhere and they can usually find them trolling on here. They think that if they repeatedly ask the same question and rave their PETA misinformation, that someone might actually end up agreeing with them. Let’s hope not!

It can get irritating but that was a tradgic event. Think of it this way, its more chances for you to get chosen as best answer.
